Asshole of the Week #1

Wife Tried to Kill Hubby 3 Times, Failed

Miami - From the Department of Redundancy comes the story of Dalia Dippolito, the 26-year old woman who hired undercover cops to kill her wealthy husband.

Well it turns out Dippolito had tried, and failed, on two other occasions to rub out Michael Dippolito just months after they were married.

We guess Dippolito certainly learned the lesson, if at first you don't succeed, try, try and try again.

Dalia Dippolito was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder in August after putting on an Oscar-worthy performance upon hearing the news her husband was dead. Police later revealed the fake death was just a stunt and that they knew she was trying to kill her hubby.

But Dippolito hoped hiring a hitman was her "third time's a charm," according to Palm Beach investigators.

A month earlier, she had tried to poison her husband's Starbucks tea with anti-freeze and when that failed, she tried to persuade two strangers to knock off her better half.

Neither attempt succeeded of course, but Dippolito gets an "A" for effort - or more appropriately, a jail cell.

Maybe Michael Dippolito has nine lives like a cat because he has escaped every attempt fairly unscathed, excluding the tummy ache from the anti-freeze. He has wisely has filed for divorce from his coo-coo wife since the last murder plot.

As for Dalia, she is still on house arrest at her mother's home. Hopefully, she has found a new hobby.

Asshole of the Week #2

Girl, 15, indicted in killing of 9-year-old
She ‘wanted to know what it felt like' to kill, officer says of suspect

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A grand jury on Wednesday indicted a 15-year-old girl on a charge of first-degree murder in the slaying of her 9-year-old neighbor.

Alyssa Bustamante is accused of killing Elizabeth Olten by strangling the victim, cutting her throat and stabbing her on Oct. 21.

Bustamante also is charged with armed criminal action for allegedly using a knife in the attack.

A judge entered a not-guilty plea on her behalf. Bustamante sat shackled with her hands at her waist, expressionless except for a hard swallow as the charges were read to her.

The indictment came hours after Cole County Circuit Judge Jon Beetem ruled Bustamante should face trial as an adult. She is being held without bond in Cole County jail.

Beetem ruled that the slaying of Olten was vicious and the state had no adequate facilities or services to treat the teenage suspect if she were to remain in the juvenile court system.

A police officer testified in court that the 15-year-old told investigators she killed Olten because she wanted to know what it felt like to kill someone.

Police testified that Olten did nothing to provoke the attack against her, and that the teenage suspect led authorities to the girl's body after they questioned her.

'What it felt like' alleged as motive
Asked by juvenile justice attorney Samantha Green whether Bustamante gave a reason for killing the girl, highway patrol Sgt. David Rice replied "ultimately, she stated she wanted to know what it felt like."

The teen, who sat silently through the proceedings in an orange prison jumpsuit and handcuffs, was arrested on an adult charge of first-degree murder. She was scheduled to be arraigned later Wednesday.

Hundreds of people searched for Elizabeth when she did not return home on Oct. 21 from a neighbor's house in St. Martin's, west of Jefferson City.

Juvenile officers testified Wednesday that Bustamante previously considered committing suicide and had been receiving treatment for depression for a few years before Elizabeth's death.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol officer testified that Bustamante admitted to digging two holes on Oct. 16 with the intention of burying Elizabeth - a sign that juvenile officers said showed the girl's killing was premeditated.

Throughout the hearing, it was assumed that Bustamante committed the killing, which is a legal requirement under state law for conducting adult certification hearings. However, her attorney objected repeatedly when attorneys tried to introduce into evidence specific details about the killing.

She won't survive jail, lawyer says
Juvenile defense attorney Kurt Valentine argued that she would either kill herself or be assaulted and killed by others if she were placed with adults in a jail cell while awaiting trial or in a prison if convicted.

"We are throwing away the child and we are signing a death sentence for Alyssa," Valentine said. "She is not going to survive her time in the Cole County jail."

Bustamante appeared in court with straight, shoulder-length brown hair, with bangs frequently covering her eyes. Her mother and grandmother sat on one side of the courtroom. The grandmother has been Alyssa's legal guardian for about half of her life.

On the other side of the courtroom sat Elizabeth's mother, other family members and friends, some of whom wore pink shirts, which was Elizabeth's favorite color.

State juvenile officials said Missouri has no secure facilities to house female juvenile offenders and would have had to renovate a facility and create a specific supervision plan had Bustamante been kept in juvenile custody.

If convicted of first-degree murder, the teen could be sentenced to up to life in prison.

Would-be Seattle ninja impaled on fence

SEATTLE - Seattle police say a man who thought he was ninja was impaled on a metal fence when he tried to leap over it. An officer who was looking for an assault victim nearby Monday night heard the man screaming for help. Police supported him to prevent further injuries until medics arrived and took him to a hospital, where he was in serious condition in intensive care on Tuesday.

Police spokeswoman Renee Witt wrote in a department Web site posting that officers thought the man might have been involved in the reported assault, but he insisted he was just a ninja trying to clear a 4- to 5-foot-tall fence.

Witt says the man was "overconfident in his abilities," and that alcohol likely played a role.

His name was not released.
